A new article published in Cutis discussed that atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic inflammatory skin condition that can present with ocular comorbidities. The authors reported that ocular complications are more prevalent in individuals with AD compared to the general population and can cause notable morbidity. Common ocular complications associated with AD include blepharitis, keratoconjunctivitis, keratoconus, glaucoma, cataracts, retinal detachment, ophthalmic herpes simplex virus infections and dupilumab-associated ocular complications. It was stated that dermatologists should be aware of the signs and symptoms of these ocular complications, as timely diagnosis and treatment can prevent an irreversible vision loss.
